One of the things that I love (& hate) about our family room is the high ceilings. However, they make for really big walls & everything seems to look really dinky. I saw an idea on Tara Whitney's blog & copied her. TW's is WAY cooler - but she's a professional photographer & I am not. I took all of the pictures except the Toyota jump at the temple & the cruise picture. These frames are just shy of 20" square so the top of the arrangement is at 8'.
It took me months & months (& months) to make the trip to IKEA in Atlanta, decide on pictures, & get them hung. I am happy enough with the result. I love my new laser level that Scott bought me to make the whole process easier. I only had to reposition one nail. (!!!) We like it because it represents a lot of aspects of our lives together - living in the Pacific Northwest & the South, mountains & sea, cool architecture, & travel. This project makes me think that I need to paint my walls a color other than this, but with 20' ceilings I think we might just live with it!

That is so beautiful! I love that you incorporated pics with scenery! It looks awesome!
Whoa, it looks so good! I can't wait to see it up close and personal!
Jenna,
I love the photo wall! It looks amazing. Did you know that IKEA is opening in Charlotte sometime this spring? No more driving to Atlanta. Paper Source is also coming to Charlotte. Yippee!
Hope all is well.

What a great idea for a big wall. Love all of the pictures!
LOVE it!
Very cool!! Several people keep talking about the IKEA frames, what kind are they?? It looks like you have no frames??
The “frames” are basically a piece of 20x20 glass, a backer-board, & 8 clips that hold the glass onto the backing. You just slip the pictures in between the glass & the back.
I think that these types of frames are sold at Michaels, etc. but the IKEA ones are just shy of 20” & only $6 each. The glass must be thin because it is breaks very easily. I had the prints made at Sam’s Club as posters & they were less than $10 each. I was happy with the quality, even though my camera doesn’t always take the best shots.
Looks great. I just finally finished getting my images all into their frames and now I am trying to hang them. What did you use for picture hangers? I have bought three varieties so far and none of them are working, or feel secure enough for the fragile glass.
Thanks
